Nate had his biopsy yesterday. Apparently, Nate has a "crevice" or indentation in the sphenoid bone. The tumor was in the crevice. The doctor said the crevice was big enough to hold 2 jelly beans. He ended up removing 99% of the mass "since he was in there" and so he could be sure to have enough to send off to be tested. Dr. Gluth said it looked to him as if bone marrow had leaked into the crevice at the base of Nate's skull. He said that is rare and crevices are not normal, but the mass appeared to consist of bone marrow and bits of bone. We won't know for sure until the lab gets done testing it but Dr. Gluth said it appears the tumor has been there awhile and had not destroyed any of the surrounding bone or tissue. He also said the surgery went as well as it could have. Nate left the hospital with one really big nostril. He's going to put a picture of his nasty nostrils on his blog. Disgusting.
