The Mohawk Incident

I got home one night and I couldn't find Nate, Max or Grant. I heard M & G in the bathroom and figured they were getting ready for bed. Nate was still MIA so I called his name only to hear him answer from... the bathroom. He said he was going to the bathroom and the boys were getting ready to take a bath. Ok. Kind of weird but they are boys.

Fast forward 15 minutes: Nate comes out of the bathroom and into Jack's room where I was getting J in bed. Then G comes in. They are both acting awkward and keep looking at the door. Finally, Nate calls to Max, "Aren't you going to come in here?" Max sheepishly walked into the room with the flippin' sides of his head shaved. I went into anger mode and put on my mad face. Nate is laughing hysterically saying, "What? What's the big deal?" Max said, "See, I told you she'd be more mad than think it was funny." How right you were, little shaven head boy.

I have no words... except these pictures look eerily like mug shots.

Blue hair, who hair?

Who hair day. I just don't want them to forget this.

and don't forget Valentine's Day

When I was little, my mom always had the kitchen table decorated on holiday mornings. I have carried on that tradition with my boys.

G was the first one up.

Hello, Krispy Kreme love.

All my loves.
A batman bear holding a heart shaped box of candy... so perfect for J-Hud.
Our home was just oozing with brotherly love.

Do you think he'll wear a Mama's Boy shirt when he's 14? I might try...

and then there was the Super Bowl

The newlyweds hosted a Cajun style super bowl party in honor of the Saints.

Sweet little family (ha ha ha). I never thought Leah would ever have little dogs...

So delicious.

30 something

During my blogging hiatus Nate had a birthday, too. We are in the thick of 30 something (man, I used to love that show).

FYI: If you are ever planning on making a german chocolate cake from scratch, don't. It is a LOT of work and not that much better than Betty Crocker's. It does look pretty, though.

Another year older and another year cuter :) I love an older man.

Redneck sledding

After sledding, take 2, we drove over to Siloam for some Redneck sledding. Pepaw has an OLD car hood that he puts a bale of hay on and hooks up to the back of the truck. Then he pulls it around the field with super excited grandchildren sitting on the back. Doesn't get much better than this. When you're not riding the sled, you can ride in the back of the truck and watch out for the sledders. Then you get to scream at Pepaw to stop when Memaw falls off the sled (hypothetically speaking, of course).

Nate and Gloria before the fall (unfortunately, I was laughing too hard and didn't get a picture of the great fall).

Bystanders.
Debbie and Adrienne made a snowman in their spare time while Jack watched.
Then, Jack posed by their snowman.
In the end, sledding was a great success (so was getting the redneck limosine unstuck).
Thank you, Pepaw :)

Cold weather fun & sledding, take 2

Can you say, cabin fever? Nothing like being out of school for 2 week for Christmas break only to tack on a whole additional week for snow.

I had to make the boys go outside. If they'd had their choice they would have stayed in and played video games or watched movies all day.

When they complained about the cold for the 49th time I let them in and they had some hot chocolate.
Then I sent them back out and they found an enormous icicle.

Then, Jack made a snow angel (which soon after sprouted little horns so he had to go inside and sleep them off).
While Jack was getting rid of his horns the bigger boys made snow ice cream...

and snow ice cream sundaes.

For dinner we roasted hot dogs over the fire.

The next day we partook in sledding, take 2.

Brrrr.....

G6, again

Grant turned 6 amidst the snowstorms and school cancellations (ALL WEEK LONG). He was actually sad not to have school the because he wanted to be there on his birthday and wear the birthday crown. Stinks to have a January birthday...

Max saved his birthday money to buy himself a DSi. Grant really wanted one too, so he took us up on an offer to buy him a DS for his birthday in lieu of a birthday party (which worked out nicely given all the snow).
Sweet six? Isn't that it? Terrible 2's, Terrifying 3's, Fearful 4's, Fighting 5's then Sweet 6?

Sledding, take 1

2010 began with lots of snow and sledding. We took it all in not knowing when the next snowfall will be... it could be years! (Little did we know, it would just be weeks.)

The great thing about sledding pictures is you don't have to tell kids to smile. It comes so naturally.

Unless they are being squooshed by their brother, then screaming insues.

Cold, happy family... or maybe that's just cold Mama, happy boys.

Hospital Week

The last week of 2009 was spent surrounded by medical professionals.

Nate had his gall bladder out and looked dead sexy sporting this manly gown, I must say.

Then, not to be outdone, Grant ended up in the ER on New Year's Eve. I had been out somewhere and got home to him crying and not moving his arm. Nate said he'd been playing outside and got knocked over by Harley (our oversized, undertrained puppy). The boys had been on the trampoline and Jack got off. Harley spotted the small subject and started to make a mad dash toward him to "play". G spotted the iminent danger his little brother was in so called Harley toward himself, instead. Harley could barely contain his excitment and jumped up on G to show his puppy love. Grant was laid out on the ground which brings us back to G crying and not moving his arm. Of course, this happened late afternoon on New Year's Eve so the doctor's office was already closed. Since G isn't one to cry continuously for no reason and since he wasn't moving his arm (which was somewhat alarming) we opted for the ER.

Once G and I got there we got all checked in and were waiting for a room when G's arm suddenly started working again. He was playing the DS without any problem and reaching for thing. The only time he flinched was when he tried to scoot himself back on the chair. He had stopped crying, too. Then we got called back to take his vitals and assess his pain on a scale of 1-10. I'm thinking, "We're in the ER. He had better be at least an 8." 2. He pointed to the little happy face with a 2. I started apologizing to the nurses blubbering on about how at home he was unconsolable, etc. They just gave a little smile and nodded like, "Yeah, we've heard it all before, lady."

He finally gets a room in the back area of non-emergencies. Now he's acting just downright silly. He's laughing, spinning around on the chair, looking in all the cabinets. I'm starting to worry that all the ER people are going to think I have Munchhousen's.

A nurse finally came and took him for an x-ray. We went back to our holding cell and waited for the doctor to tell us the results. I'm already thinking this kid is going to be in BIG trouble for being so dramatic and faking an injury. Dr. Vickery came and called us to the computer to show us G's bones. He said, "Well, it's broken." I think my response might have sounded a little too excited, "Really?!" He showed us the break then pointed to another area and said, "It's broken here, too." Now my mother guilt fills me and I think I was about to lay into G for faking it and he's broken all over! Then Dr. Vickery smiled and said, "Just kidding. That's just his growth plate."So after Grant shared some homemade beef jerky with the doctor, he left the ER sporting what he named his "jet pack" (aka. figure 8 sling).

Bad dog, Harley.

Hello?

So, now that it's April I thought I should maybe blog about Christmas. April? Really? I used to have time to do fun things like blog but now.... obviously not.

We went to Siloam to celebrate Christmas Eve as always but this year ended up spending the night at the Super 8 due to the snow.

The boys sleeping together Christmas morning. A brief moment of peace... a true Christmas miracle.

Does this remind anyone else of Charlie's Angels?

Nana gifted the big boys with Snuggies. I can't wait for Nate to wear his to a Razorback game in the fall!

Nikki got Shay these ear muffs because he has approximately 58 weenie dogs at his house (OK, really just 3...) Jack wore them well. My little weenie boy.

Nothing like ending a long day with a 3D movie. Such sweet little guys (yet another, Christmas miracle).

Merry Christmas?
