The Light

Last night I was getting ready for bed and doing the final pick-up of the night throughout the house. I noticed the light was on in Jack's bedroom. This is what I found when I went to turn it off...

He scaled the drawer handles to reach the light switch. I guess all the hard work wore him out so he couldn't even profit from his endeavors (there were some toys in his bed that apparantly he still wanted to play with). Either that or he has an odd attachment to the place we change his diapers.

Futbol

Another soccer season is upon us. Max is playing for the Fire Breathing Dragons (the team voted on the name) and Grant is playing for the Transformers. It's been a little bit of a rough start for the G-man (there seems to be a pattern...) but tonight he ran out on the field all by himself and even kicked the ball (those might seem like assumed things to happen with a player during a soccer game but really, you can't assume ANYTHING with G).

Little Bunny Fu-Fu's?

Nate made a discover while mowing this week... a nest of baby bunnies. We've decided the mother bunny isn't the best decision maker: the nest is out in the open and she should have done a little more research on the neighborhood. Perhaps then she would have learned of the rodent hunter residing the same yard as her precious newborns. When we first made the discovery of the bunnies we thought they might be orphans. Just last week Leo's catch was a nice sized bunny. Nate and I both feared the mother had met her demise. But, fortunately nursing baby bunnies to adulthood is not on our to do list. The mother bunny was spotted tonight caring for her little ones.

Hopefully the little guys will stay hidden long enough to gain some speed so they can flee our yard as soon as possible. Until then, we'll do our best to keep Leo the lion contained.

Back to School

So, to catch up with exciting things from the past week or so....

School started! Max is an official 1st grader and Grant is an official pre-K'er.

Max's teacher called us the 3rd day asking if we'd talk to him about his excessive talking. He had already had to move his color card- the 3rd day! He only moved it once all last year. We had a "little talk" and he hasn't had any bad reports since. (I did explain to his teacher that he came by it naturally because his daddy is a little bit of a talker)

Sweet, crazy Grant was so excited to go to his big boy school up until the very moment he walked into the classroom. He's had a couple rough drop offs but it's getting a little better... day by day. He did decide the first day that he didn't want me to pick him up right at 3:00; he wants Nate to pick him up when he gets off work so he can play longer.

My big boys. I love school :)

Antivirus 2009

It has been over a week since I've been able to freely get online. Our computer came down with a nasty case of Antivirus 2009 (the words that kept popping up on our computer screen posing as a helpful link only to create utter chaos... even without knowingly being clicked) which became embedded deep within it's innermost parts. 2 computer guys and a couple checks later, it is back and virus free. Now, I just have to get through the 133 e-mails in my inbox so I can post about the excitement of our last week!

#3

My mostly sweet Jack who is obsessed with Diego, loves Thomas the train and has a deep, throaty laugh that is contagious. I love this little guy.

Movie or Meal?

So, apparently Ratatouille is a real food item. I made it for dinner last night. Who knew? (I have to admit I did think of rats frequently during preparation.)

My friend Michelle gave me everything I needed from her enormous garden. This is pure, home-grown summer goodness. The amazing part to me was Max ate it but Jack and Grant didn't. Maybe someday I'll find something all 3 will eat willingly.

Counting down

I am ready for school to start! I am running out of ways to entertain my children and they are arguing and fighting more and more each day. I think we are all driving each other crazy.

One of our non- video game/outside/movie activities was play-doh. Fun, but seriously a pain to clean out of carpet when Jack throws it down then dances on it.
Max made an army base... or something like that... I can't remember exactly but I do know it had something to do with weapons.

Grant (with my help) made the dog pictured on the box.

Jack made a mound perfect for jumping on.

I know I will miss our lazy summer days when they're gone but for now... oh, sweet Monday!

Changes

Jack is going to a different Mother's Day Out starting next week. All the boys have gone in Fayetteville (all the way down on Dickson) for YEARS and though we have loved it, but it is really far away. So, Jack will be starting the new school year at a MDO right next door to my work. Very convenient for me.

My mom made him this cute little nap mat to bring to MDO. He was so excited about his new bed he slept on it that night (for some reason I couldn't convince him to use the built in pillow- he wanted the one off his bed). Note how nicely bunny bear matches the blanket. Good planning, Mom. (Did anyone spot baby bunny bear without his clothes on the camo pillow case? That is some good hiding...)

G-rant is starting a new school, too. We thought it would be best for him to go to an all day preschool. He is so excited to be going to his very own school. He starts the same day as Max. He even had a little school supply list. He picked out a backpack and lunch box (because that's what school kids get, right?) but I haven't had the heart to tell him that preschool kids can't take their lunch to school. Maybe I can pack him some snacks...
Grant wanted me to take his picture with "cool" hair. I am proud to say that he is now staple and dried blood on the scalp free.

And Max is starting 1st grade in a week. Wasn't I just pregnant with him? I feel like an old lady but where does the time go?

Happy Birthday to Grant?

Tonight at dinner Grant said it was his birthday. We played along told him we could pretend it was his birthday. Max ran off to find some presents. We discussed having cake. Grant leaned over and whispered to me, "Mom, can it REALLY be my birthday?"

(I know, randomly I made pumpkin pie for dessert in August. It doesn't make sense to me either.)

Heat Wave

What do you do when it's miserably hot outside and you've run out of things to do inside? Draw on your children, of course.

Max was trying to invent a costume of some sort and needed a mask. He wasn't happy with any that we had so I thought I'd help him out. He wasn't very pleased. Decorating Grant's face was merely for my enjoyment.

Max has been wanting me to spike up his hair. Today he asked me, "When are we going to use that hair jell-o?"

Grant knocked over a box fan today... it was still blowing. I gave the usual "you have to be careful" schpeal. He said, "I was just giving it a little rest."

Dancing with the McGoo's

I tried sending the following post e-card to my friend Lori to show our excitement for her birthday but she couldn't open it. So, I've posted it or her (and all the blogging world) to see. No, we do not do live performances.

Happy Birthday, Lori!

Happy Birthday to Ava!

Last weekend (before the minor head injury incident) we went to Broken Arrow to celebrate Ava's 1st birthday.

Bekah and I have completely opposite party philosphies. I think the bigger the better. She thinks they are unnecessary, "she doesn't need one", etc. She told all of us this would be Ava's only party until she was old enough to ask for one. Bekah did have a "pink" theme, some cool ceiling decorations, cupcakes and a few appetizers. Bekah had a wedding shower to go to the morning of the party. Not five minutes after she left Dave asked, "So what are we going to do for this party?" He proceded to call Jumpman and order a princess Jumper. He told the guy they needed to have it at his house by 1:00 because that's what time his wife was getting home. It's amazing how fast they can set one of those things up! We tried convincing Dave to get a pony, too, but it didn't happen.

Of course, the thing was huge. You could see it as soon as you turned into the neighborhood. Bekah wasn't exactly excited about it. Dave's response was, "It's princess... I kept with the theme" and "Well, I didn't know all you had planned was nuts and broccoli." Way to go, Dave. I can't wait to see what's going to be at Ava's party next year.
