Grant

#2 is an admitted "little turd" a lot of the time but...

while we were coloring together before bed:
G: Mom, I wish I could marry you.
S: Why?
G: Because you're just so pretty.

while getting ready for bed a different night G sat down in my lap and sighed:
G: I'm in love.
S: You are?
G: Yeah. Do you want to know with who?
S: Yes.
G: It's you, Mom.

That is my little Mama's boy :)

the food and souvenirs

As a warning to all future circus partakers: cash in your savings and college funds because you will need it, not to get in the doors, but to make purchases once inside. Good gracious! Talk about highway robbery.

Here's a numbers breakdown:
-ticket to the circus: $12
-bottle of water: $3
-snowcone in a clown head cup: $9
-popcorn in a circus box: $7
-cotton candy in a circus top hat: $12
-souvenir plastic sword (like the ones they sell at Dollar Tree): $18
-soft plastic circus elephant: $16

Honestly, is that even legal?

Jack is in love with his "efunt". He brought it to MDO on Monday and his teacher said it didn't leave his side all day. He carries on entire conversations with it and they even shared a bowl of cereal this morning.

Max suffered the consequences of eating his ENTIRE BAG of cotton candy later on that evening.

Of course, G-man had sword in hand throughout the show. I thought he might decapitate the innocent patrons sitting behind us.

Jack finished the entire snow cone from the creepy clown head.

Sidenote: Fortunately for our children their grandparents not only treated us to the event but also to all the goodies inside. If we had been in charge of fundage they would have been eating fruitsnacks and smuggled bottled water from my purse. Thank you, Memaw and Pepaw!

the entertainment

Some of the highlights...

Elephants on little stools.

Clowns have changed a lot since I went to the circus last...

I couldn't get a good picture of this but it still worth a mention: motorcycle on a highwire.

7 tigers in a cage with one very brave/stupid man. One got a little grumpy and growled a lot which was a little scary.

Again, not a good picture but worth a mention: 7 dirt bikes in a sphere all driving around at the same time. Very nerve racking; I was glad to see this act end! You know you're old when all you're thinking during the circus acts is: these people can't get liability insurance anywhere.

The Greatest Show on Earth

Nate's parents took us all to the circus this weekend in Tulsa. It was incredible! It is now Barnum & Bailey and Ringley Brothers Circus...the greatest show on earth.

Hanging out at the pre-circus entertainment. Don't they all look so excited?

Jack had this mesmerized look on his face the entire night.

Grant, of course, loved it all. My little clown.

Max volunteered to help defeat the "strong" clowns in a kids vs. clowns tug-o-war. He was so proud.

Yes, our family fit right in at the circus.

Ava & Jack

Jack & I went to Tulsa on Friday to spend some time with Ava...and her parents. We took the little guys to Pumpkin Town to enjoy the fall festivities.

Nothing better than a little pumpkin shopping.

Bird of Prey

Most people won't be surprised to learn that there was another random animal sighting at our home. Fortunately, this one remained outside.

I was in the kitchen and noticed something swooping down out of the corner of my eye. I looked to see a hawk landing on our fence. I really needed a picture of it because Nate and Grant weren't home and I knew they'd want to see it. Everytime I tried opening the sliding door to get a shot 1) the hawk would turn and look in my direction and/or 2) Leo (our cat) would try to escape... which I envisioned ending in seeing Leo flying over our house in the clutches of the hawk's talons. Thus, the picture is super zoomed with an enormous gas can in it as a result of my standing in the kitchen with my arm stuck out the door trying to get a shot.

Also, today as I was pulling out of the driveway a bird flew into the storm door on our house. That in itself isn't that strange except this bird appeared to be some sort of parakeet... or whatever bird is bright green with hints of orange and yellow. After the ramming of the door, it hopped around on the porch a second before flying away. Max said, "That bird looks like one in my rainforest book."

Attack of the random birds? If I see an emu walk by it's all over...

littlest ninja

The boys are all going to be Ninjas for Halloween. I know, that ruins the surprise for future Halloween posts but I couldn't resist showing Jack in his costume and matching boots (he might not ever put it on again so I had to seize the moment). We've had his costume for a week. This was the first time he agreed to put it on. He wanted to be an orange ninja or a green ninja... NOT a blue ninja. I tried explaining that finding a ninja costume in his size is not the easiest endeavor so we had to be happy with whatever color we found. He did not understand or care. He wanted orange or green. But, he finally put his costume on and ran to play outside. I later discovered the pumpkin was missing from the porch. I asked him what happened to it. He pointed and said, "Pumpkins go in grass."

Jack wore his costume out to dinner later that night and randomly throughout the meal would have an outburst of ninja moves along with some "hiiii-ya!" sound effects. How often does one enjoy a ninja show while eating at Sonny's? That might have been a once in a lifetime experience for those unsuspecting diners.

Sign Confusion

I went by the Republican National Headquarters yesterday. I went with the intention of getting the "I Love Sarah" bumper sticker. I thought Nate should have one on his car. They didn't have any (back order- they'll have them in 3-4 weeks... ummm, isn't that a little too late?) but I did pick up a yard sign and the traditional bumper stickers.
When Max got home from school he ran in the house excitedly asking, "Mom! What's that sign for?" After I explained, he sighed, "Oh, I thought we were moving." Poor little guy, he wants his own room really bad....
