The Wall
Our insurance adjuster called this morning telling us about what is covered in our home owner's policy. Basically, all the water damage is covered except for the piece of drywall that covers the window (because that was just poor construction). So, she told me to call a mold remediation specialist to assess the mold damage. We have to have the mold assessed and cleaned before we can start repairs. Our insurance policy covers $2500 for mold clean-up. I thought that sounded like a lot. For anyone else who has never had mold cleaned up, that is nothing. Really. Dan, the mold man, came over this morning. He said that $2500 might be enough to cover the air quality test they have to do before and after the clean-up even occurs. The actual clean-up will probably be at least a couple thousand dollars. Without taking down the paneling, he can't tell how much is damaged so really, there is no way of telling how much damage there is without actually starting. For sure, the entire wall will have to come down... meaning all of the tile from the bathroom. If you will all recall, we have one functioning bathroom because of the stinkin shower pan that needs to be replaced in the other bathroom. I guess we'll be taking sponge baths out of the kitchen sink.
Oh, and he said that during the time of mold removal we won't want to be living in our house. Anyone have a camper?
